Reflecting on Skateboarding

2/28/1999

KICKED OUT These are all the places I was kicked out of. In Half Moon Bay, I have been kicked out of Longs parking lot, Cunha Intermediate School grounds, the Church parking lot in Moss Beach and the Post Office in Moss Beach.

FAVORITE PLACES My favorite places to skateboard are the church parking lot in Moss Beach because of all the blacktop and curbs. I also like to go to El Granada Elementary school because of its high curbs, smooth blacktop and there is a lot of wax.

GRINDS AND TRICKS A grind happens when you slide on the trucks underneath your board. Some types of grinds look better, but they are extremely hard so trying basic grinds, like the 50-50 or nose-slide, is better in the beginning. As you get better, it looks better. Flips are when the board flips over or spins in the air, not the skater. Some flips, like kick-flips are easy to begin with. As you advance, the flips spin more or rotate to make the trick more difficult and better looking. After a while you develop your own style of tricks.

Reflections on Dances . . .

I thought the Halloween Dance was...             11/24/1997

I went to my first Cunha dance and I'm really looking forward to the next one. There was a good DJ, good use of the lights for each song, and the music was ok. The food wasn't good or at least it didn't look good. The lines were long, some people were mean, and it was packed.

The music was good. The DJ was nice and he played a good variety of music. He made announcements every hour to give out Tshirts and bumper stickers to the first people to get out and dance. The lights were spectacular. It looked like they were dancing on the wall. There were songs for all different kinds of people, country, rock and alternative. The music was pretty good except the DJ didn't play enough slow dance songs.

The food was bad. It looked green, especially the pizza. The drinks had more food in them than the tables had on them. The people serving the food also looked green, but that's a whole other story. The lines were long to get in, but short once I got inside the gym. Inside the gym, it was so crowded and hot I tried to get out for fresh air. The chaperones were so strict they wouldn't let me out of the gym. The dance was fun. The DJ, lights, and songs were very good which made it pretty fun, besides all the other stuff.
